Project Security – Profiles and Permissions

OVERVIEW

Permission sets allow users to access various tools and functions through a collection of settings and permissions. They are applied at the user level and extend functional access. While a user can only have one profile, they may have multiple permission sets and various types of users can be assigned to a permission set regardless of profile. User permissions determine ability to edit an object record, view the setup menu, empty the organizational recycle bin, or reset a user’s password. Access settings determine other functions available like page visibility and specific login hours.

Object access is designated for each user by two factors:

Profile – A set configuration of object and field level permission for an entire group of people
Permission Sets – Grants additional permissions (one or more permission set per user)

A user’s object level permissions detail their access to create, read, edit, and delete records for an object.

Read – Users can only view record
Create – Users can read and create records
Edit – Users can read and update records
Delete – Users can read, edit, and delete records
View All* Users can view all records of the object
Modify All* – Users can read, edit, delete, transfer, and approve all records associated with the object

*View all and modify all permissions ignore sharing rules and setting, which allows administrators to grant access to records of a given object across the organization

PERMISSION SETS

Cloud Coach’s managed packages come with some common permission sets already defined. Admins can decide which permissions sets a user will need to work with projects and to what degree. Permission sets range from basic users to administrators. Please see the Permission Sets – Enterprise and Ultimate for package details and permission set descriptions. This can be used to identify which users should receive different permissions to complete work, assign resources, and access other project related information.
